So I noticed a small puddle of green fluid under my 2017 E300 this morning and my heart just sank because I know coolant leaks on these Mercedes can be an absolute nightmare to track down and fix. I popped the hood and could see some dried crusty residue around what looks like the water pump area, but honestly I'm no mechanic so I could be completely wrong about where it's actually coming from. The car hasn't overheated yet and the low coolant warning hasn't come on, but I can smell that sweet antifreeze smell every time I park and it's making me super anxious every time I drive it because I'm just waiting for something to fail catastrophically. I've been reading through some Mercedes forums and it seems like these M276 engines are known for water pump failures and thermostat housing leaks, which apparently are pretty common once you hit around 80,000 km which is exactly where I'm at right now. The dealership quoted me what I consider to be an absolutely ridiculous amount just to do a diagnostic pressure test, never mind the actual repair, so I'm definitely looking for an independent shop that knows these cars inside and out. I really need to get this sorted before it leaves me stranded somewhere, but I also don't want to get ripped off by a shop that sees a Mercedes badge and immediately triples their prices just because they think I have money to burn. Has anyone here dealt with a coolant leak on a similar generation E-Class and can give me some idea of what I'm actually looking at cost-wise, or recommend a trustworthy place that won't try to take advantage of the situation? I'm honestly losing sleep over this and just want to get it fixed properly without having to sell a kidney to pay for it.
